Hi! If you’re still there.. I’m still here! Hope you are well, and generally being awesome.
I’ve been unusually quiet because of.. well, life, etc. Stuff happens. But I miss making music, very much, so I’m trying to fix that. I’m not the greatest publicist but I just have to make music nonetheless.
As valued subscribers, I want you to hear some new material. A couple of bits for now.. I still have a ton of unreleased pieces to come.
My friend Alexander Murillo, with Genaro Carpio, has just finished making this powerful, high-quality, heartfelt and very human film. It is a wonderful, compassionate piece of reality filmmaking – and I’m very proud to say I provided the soundtrack.
‘The Lift’ is a documentary short about the work of Pastor ‘Scuffie’ Shigg, as he helps the poor and less fortunate of South Central Los Angeles.
Alex himself says: “Filmmaking cannot always be about self gratification. We have the responsibility to bring forward the plights of social injustice and the human condition from the shadows and into the light. Serve others first before self.”
My compositions are always prompted by life around me, and I always feel my music accompanies life in some way – mostly in my own or a listener’s imagination, though rarely on film. It was the sheer power of film and music together that first inspired me to be a musician 30 years ago – So to be part of this emotional, caring story is a great feeling, and it’s an honour to be a continuing part of Alex’s impressive work.
Though this song was not written about the refugee crisis, I wanted to use it to do my bit to raise funds. I have donated what I can myself, and hope these people in need can be helped.Read the rest of this entry →
To sovande barn
mellom kjærasten min og meg
med bamsar på brystet
Me legg oss i utenkjelege vinklar
for å få plass
veit dei burde berast ut
men sparkande varme
held dei oss vakne
i gyngande halvørske
let me tankane berast
av trygg tung barnepust
til me sovnar lukkelege
ein gong utpå morgonkvisten.
